I Cheated

When my grandmother died, she left me a handwritten note. It was so very dear to me that I hid it... from myself.

While I continue to search for my Grandmother's letter, I want to leave behind written mementos for those who have influenced ME in some way. To create a tradition to honor my Grandmother.

Welcome to "Sincere Monday":

Dear Mrs. Dauman (2nd Grade),

I am sorry I cheated in your class room. It was very hard to resist looking up the answers that were so cleverly hidden in the back of my reader. It saved time, and quite honestly, the stories were incredibly boring (and pointless).

Who had the bright idea to put the answers in the back of the books anyway, and how stupid do you think a second grader is? Maybe it's just me, but if the answers are clearly written in the book I am reading, I don't believe I should be held accountable for writing them down.

I guess I am not really sorry that I cheated; I am more upset that I was caught and accosted by you in the girl's bathroom.

Second grade sucked!
Sincerely,
~2

  1. I love this! If only all of us were more honest with ourselves. :) Thanks for sharing such a personal memory.

  2. Probably the best idea I've seen in a long time. You better do more of these.

  3. Thanks Joanie :-)

Chris, I actually started a whole blog dedicated to this, but never posted. I thought if I stuck it here, I would post.

I am trying to work out a posting schedule and get back in the habit of posting something/writing something everyday.

We'll se how that goes *shrugs*

  4. My 2nd grade teacher was a nun! Yes. Enough said.

We never cheated because we were told Jesus would cry if we did.

At least in 2nd grade, anyway. :)

  8. This was great! Do more...

Please don't tell yourself to post every day! You'll burn out and not post at all! Maybe try doing these letters on Mondays then slowly adding more days in.

I don't want to see you disappear again!

  9. Aww, that was heartwarming. ;)

I think Sincere Monday is a terrific idea, but I kind of agree with Laura. I think it wise to try to write every day, but I'm not so sure you should try to hold yourself to posting every day. I've seen too many people try to do that and eventually burn out.

But keep on the Sincere Monday thing - nice idea. This one was funny and honest, and... well, sincere. I liked it, notwithstanding my little joke up top. :)

  10. p.s. I had a tremendous crush on my second grade teacher. Like Marisa, I went to a Catholic grade school, but my teacher was certainly not a nun. (casting no asparagus there, she just wasn't a nun)

  13. Also, I once cheated on a test in first or second grade. I think it was first. My desk was across from Amy's and the Math was too much for me. Eventually I just could not figure the problems out, so I looked across the desk and copied an answer. She erased it, so I watched, and copied her new one. To my surprise, she erased and wrote yet another number. I erased and copied yet again. She erased her answer and wrote a word, which I actually began to copy until I realized she was looking at me.

    I was very busted.

  14. John - I went thru a couple of weeks obsessing about this missing letter. I couldn't sleep and when I did, I dreamt of places I possibly hid my letter... they all turned out to be wrong. I will find it someday (I hope sooner than later)

I loved your cheating story. Too funny!
