NaNo Journal: November 3, 2011

November 3, 2011

I'm so jealous of people who jump into NaNoWriMo each year and can churn out a crazy number of words. I'm three days in, and hating the crap out of it.

Let's be honest--we all knew I'd be bitching by now. You can say it. It's cool.

While I'd love to throw in the towel, I'm not. I won't meet my daily word limits, and I am pretty sure that I won't make the 50K the end of this month. .

I'm OK with that. I AM pushing forward.

I've spent a lot of time the last few months, planning out where my story is going, and that's exciting business. I can't just kill it, so I will keep writing this month... next month and months after that.

I'm still excited to be taking part. Even though I won't win, I'm still happy to be part of such a huge event, and I will happily help you celebrate your victories :-)

NaNo Journal: October 31, 2011

October 31, 2011

Well, it's almost here, and of course I'm trying not to stress out. I lost a whole week of planning to Strep Throat, and I still don't feel like myself.

I just thought if I were prepared--if I had everything planned out, I would more than likely stay on track and finish this year. Oh well. I will fly by the seat of my pants if I have to. It's more my style anyway.

As the hour draws nearer, I'm getting excited. I finally figured out where I'm going to start my story. It hit me today as I was sitting in my car waiting on kids. I've been playing with a few ideas, but nothing felt quite right until now--I could kick myself for not thinking of this sooner.

My NaNo project is going to focus on my Eden Collection of stories, following Brian Oldham as he steps into his predetermined role within the society that "knows what's best"... Ends will be tied, secrets revealed, and the empire will waiver. I can' wait to start writing it.

I'm planning to kick off NaNo at Midnight, and at least write for an hour before calling it a night. We'll see how it goes.

Good Luck, Wrimos!

Gearing Up for NaNoWriMo

I've been a very busy girl! Between work, family, and book reviews on Easily Mused, I'm organizing notes, building character sheets, and outlining a story.. for NaNoWriMo.

Diving back into Eden Corp for this years novel,  I hope to make some serious headway. These characters have been with me for almost 3 years now, and they're dying to get out of my head. I've yet to finish 50K words in November, but I'm hoping this is the year I do--third time's a charm!

On top of writing a novel in November, I will also be blogging every day--journaling the writing process. It's going to be a quick post. I haven't quite decided on the format, but I have made a nifty banner that will head each journal entry.

My emo roots will probably show quite a bit in these posts, so you might want to look away.. or have a laugh.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo this year? What are you writing?

Updates!

I attempted NaNoWriMo for the first time this year. I didn't win. I did write more than 15,000 words on one story, and over 7,000 words on my Latch Key Kid collection of tales.

I am pretty proud of myself. While I didn't finish 50,000 words in November, I don't think I have ever written 15,000 words on ANYTHING (maybe a college research paper). This is a HUGE accomplishment for me.

I started out with the Latch Key kids and got bored, so I started working on a novel that I have been thinking about for a few months. I have no idea what I am going to call it, and I am not even sure how much I want to share here. Give me some time though; I am bound to come around.

I am going to post the Latch Key stuff here, like I promised. I will start editing it today and hopefully I can post it in short story form here on the blog. I wrote it out in chapters... long ones, so I will probably break it down and post blog size segments hopefully starting tomorrow.

Notice anything different? I moved the blog... again.

I am tired of trying to stay on top of software updates, so I decided I would let a google app do it for me. I love google. I am forwarding the domain, but I am not going to host the site myself anymore (what a relief).

I posted a blog on the old hosting before I deleted it, so that emails would go out to my subscribers. I can't seem to find a way to add my old subscribers here, so you will have to subscribe again if you want to get updates via email or rss.

I am excited to have that all out of the way. What have you been up to? Did you take part in NaNoWriMo?
